Navratri 2015 | Navaratri Pooja

Navratri meaning ‘nine nights’ commences from the first day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Ashwin, which is celebrated then for 9 nights. The word ‘Nav’ means ‘nine’ and ‘ratri’ means ‘night’ and the Navratri festival is celebrated every year according to the Hindu & Navratri Calendar. Navratri 2015 festival started from October 13th – October 21st .

Although, there are many legends attached with Navratri, almost all of them are related to Goddess Shakti and her various forms.

Legend of Navratri

The great legend of Navaratri dates back to the story of the mighty demon Mahishasura, who worshipped Lord Shiva and attained invincible powers. But instead of using these powers for the benefit of humanity, he started killing innocent lives on earth and set out to win the seven lokas. No one was able to save the living creatures from his tyranny and soon he acquired the swargloka.

Therefore, all the Gods, including the Hindu Trinities, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva united their supreme powers and created a divine being called Ma Shakti or Durga.

Goddess Durga, the Warrior Goddess, with all the accumulated power and weapons given by the Gods, fought with Mahishasura which went on for 9 days and finally on the tenth day, Goddess Durgakilled the demon Mahishasura, thus lifting the tyranny of the demon off the innocent lives on earth.

Offer Your Prayers to Goddess Durga on Navaratri 2015.

Saraswati the Goddess Of Knowledge and Arts, Goddess SaraswatiSaraswathi, Consort of Lord Brahma, Saraswati Pooja, Saraswati Homa, Saraswathi Pooja, Saraswathi Homa, Saraswati, Saraswathi

Saraswati – The Goddess of Knowledge and Arts

Saraswati, the consort of Lord Brahma, is the Goddess of all kinds of arts, sciences and learning. Her four arms represent the four aspects of human personality in learning, i.e. mind, intellect, alertness and ego. Alternatively, these four arms also symbolize the 4 Vedas, the primary sacred books for Hindus.

The name Saraswati came from the word “saras” meaning “flow” and “wati” meaning “a woman”. So, Saraswati is the symbol of knowledge; its flow (or growth) is like a river and Her knowledge is supremely alluring, like a beautiful woman. She is also known as a guardian deity in Buddhism, who upholds the teachings of Gautama Buddha by offering protection and assistance to practitioners.

Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and arts, represents the free flow of knowledge and consciousness. She is the mother of the Vedas and ‘Saraswati Vandana‘ the chants to her often begin and end Vedic lessons. She is not only worshipped for secular knowledge but for divine knowledge essential to achieve Moksha.

Goddess Saraswati gives the essence of one’s self and provides us with the mundane and spiritual knowledge of our lives. She is a reflection of the science of life, or the Vedanta, which attempts to unravel the essentials of human existence and the universe masked within. She points to the ultimate aim of human life that is to realize the true nature of the self, even if it requires an enormous amount of determination, insistence and patience.

The knowledge that Goddess Saraswati renders through continual worship, discipline and devotion is one of an integral vision in which both temporal and spiritual levels of study are meditated, practiced and developed upon. Worshipping Her can bless you with expertise in various art forms, as She is the embodiment of purity and knowledge and performing Saraswati Pooja or Saraswati Homa can bestow on you peace of mind and success.

So offer your sincere prayers to Goddess Saraswati – the goddess of knowledge and arts and find yourselves blessed with sacred knowledge to overcome all the difficulties of life, as there is nothing in this material world, which is difficult to be procured by the blessings of Goddess Saraswati!

Help Me Gain the Blessings of Goddess Saraswati!
